https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCETdZTiTj8Today was like meeting an old friend, the Roland JX-3P was my first proper synthesizer and getting my hands on the JX-03 really made me jump up and down with pure joy.
Now, as you all know i dont really do demos, but i thought id just connect the cameras when testing it for the first time, noodling away for ages and ages. There really is no focus on the music, so pardon my random crappy playing.. i just wanted to try and capture the polyphonic capabilities with long release times and such.
First thing i noticed, damn it sounds good, it is as good as i remember my old 3P, a pure joy playing and the compact size / knobs did not really bother me at all. And its also very well built, w partial top metal casing.
One important note, you might see the JP08 and JU06 flicker when i use the pitch bender etc, this is because all synths are MIDI chained from the NLA1.. however i can assure you that they are muted in the mixer and the only synth you hear is the JX03 at all times.
One thing i noticed, the output is very HOT, so there might be some overload at times - i didnt really dial in a sweet spot. Oh and I use NO FX the first 20 minutes, not even the built in delay and/or chorus. I wanted to capture the sound as is. NOTE: at 20.45 i turn on some external simple delay and reverb on the MS-70 to finish off the noodle session :)
Cheers, i hope this video is helpful and informational, even though i dont say anything... i always let the synths do the talking.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUgppYxfWpsToday i am meeting up with the Roland JU-06, modeled on possibly the most iconic sounding synthesizer from the 1980's - the Juno-106, and damn the new Boutique really keeps that legacy intact.
Ok, so a couple of things.. the output is really HOT on this one too, i though i had it tuned in to sweetspot but man at some low notes I still managed to overdrive my mixer, it really packs a punch. Also, i dont really do demos, so this is technically just me noodling about on the JU06 with no planning.. just trying it out with different sounds. I remembered to use the chorus on the JU06, which i totally missed on the JX03, so for those of you out there interested how that sounds should get their kicks.
Also, the sliders are really good..possibly the best of the three to edit in terms of feel, i forgot how small foot print the synth had at times.. it is really not a big deal at all with the JU06. (do note i have massive fat fingers) :)
There are NO external FX in the beginning. Just the JU06 chorus. (not the delay) At the end of the session, after 20.40 i add some vanilla reverb and delay with the MS70 to finish with some more depth and air.
I really hope this video as the JX03 one is helpful and informational, even though i dont say anything... i always let the synths do the talking.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzmmMMz4uY4So finally I get to play the JP-08, modeled on the king of polyphonic synthesizers, Jupiter-8. I have never been this excited in my entire life.. wow what a machine!
So , before you start listening there is a couple of things.. i have never owned a Jupiter-8 nor Jupiter-6 so this synth is pretty new to me, which means that i am a bit lost at times. Also the sonical palette of this synth, is WAY more than i could possibly ever fit into 30 minutes of noodling... it is extremely powerful. So please do not expect this to be it, I have merely scratched on its surface.
This for me is just a feeling of the basic sounds of the synth, and yikes i can understand why people are in love with the Jupiter-8.
So onto the sliders, they are a bit small i agree.. but after some practice they are pretty simple to maneuver since they have a solid feel and some nice resistance in them. However, the Cross Modulation slider is probably the hardest one to set .. it takes a few seconds to get it right. (not in any way impossible)
There are NO external FX in the beginning, after 25++ minutes i add vanilla reverb and delay to finish the session off.
I really hope this video as the other two, JX03/JU06 one is helpful and informational, just let the synths do the talking. Now i am off to record a massive JAM session with ALL three of them... so stay tuned for more! :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JWxRdmEmlUSo, what is better than playing one of the new Roland Boutique synths? Playing ALL three of them at the same time of course! Seriously, I have not had this much fun in ages.
I set up three independent patches, JX-03 with a slow attack fifth pad, the JU-06 with a slow PWM lead .. and finally the JP-08 with a complex sequence pattern.
I am adding a fair amount of delay and reverb on this patch, using two MS70s.
Well, not much else other to say than... play it loud and enjoy! :)
